SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Crews responded to a bad early morning wreck on Florance Street at W 40th Street in Savannah.

Police say a minivan was traveling the wrong way down Florance St. sometime after 5 a.m. Wednesday when it ended up hitting a tree, knocking off the entire side door and causing a substantial amount of damage to the front end of the vehicle.

Three people had to be taken the hospital, two with serious injuries. There is still no word on the extent of the third victims injuries at this time. Officals believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Metro police have Florence Street closed while the Major Accident Investigations Team conducts a proper investigation of the crash. Drivers may want to avoid the area Wednesday morning if possible.

"Florance Street is going to be closed for another couple of hours, probably until about 8 a.m. It's not a heavily traveled road but it is important to this neighborhood." said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.
