Charlie Ray honored at deceased grand marshal ceremony

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

2013 Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal Jimmy Ray honored his dad, Charlie Ray, during a ceremony Wednesday.

Members of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the St. Vincent's Academy Chorale and Ray's family gathered to pay tribute.

Charlie Ray was the grand marshal of the 1989 parade and a beloved fixture of the Irish community. He passed away in 2006.

The tradition of honoring past grand marshals was started by Harry Deal and 2012 grand marshal Tim Ansley.
