SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) -

A man who drove a truck for a company hired to transport Girl Scout cookies has admitted he stole hundreds of cases of cookies, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Christopher Maurice Morton, 37, of Woodruff on a breach of trust charge on Wednesday.

Investigators said the theft of cookies was reported on Feb 26 by Carey Moving and Storage of Monks Grove Church Road in Spartanburg. Brian Carey said his company gets all the cookies from the distributor and then delivers them to various troops. He said they have been delivering cookies for the Girl Scouts for more than 40 years.

Cary said after the initial delivery to the troops the employees did an inventory and noticed the missing cookies.

Investigators said from working with the management at the location and reviewing invoices and surveillance video, they identified Morton as a suspect.

On Sunday night, 352 cases of Girl Scout cookies were located behind an abandoned business on Haywood Road in Greenville.

When an investigator spoke with Morton Wednesday, he confessed to stealing 450 cases of cookies, valued at $18,900, from the business and disposing of the cases in Greenville, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Morton was employed as a truck driver by Carey Moving and Storage since July, 2012. He was fired as a result of his arrest.
