SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Rescue crews responded to a bad single-vehicle wreck early Friday morning on Waters Avenue in Savannah.
It happened around 3 a.m. Friday on Waters Ave. just off DeRenne Ave. A car somehow slammed into a tree. It took rescue crews an hour to cut the driver out of the car. He was taken to the hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries but officials and the victim's family said he was conscious.
Police had Waters Avenue closed from Athea Parkway to Bacon Park Drive for about 2 hours while the Savannah-Chatham Metro Major Accident Investigations Team looked into the exact cause of the crash.
"They were going to try and get traffic around the wreck. Usually when the Major Accident Team gets here and takes over it usually takes them a couple of hours, and as you know, this is a heavily traveled road, especially that time of the morning, so they'll move as quickly as they can." said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.
The road reopened around 6 a.m.
MAIT continues to investigate.
