Funeral arrangements are set for a Marietta firefighter who died of a medical issue he experienced after collapsing as firefighters worked to help an injured motorist.
The Marietta Fire Department said in a statement that Lonnie Nutt was responding to a car accident around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Whitlock Avenue.
When firefighters arrived and began to assist an injured patient, Nutt fell to the ground with a medical issue. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.
The fire department statement doesn't specify what type of medical issue Nutt had.
Nutt began his career with the City of Marietta in May 1994. He has served Marietta as a fire fighter, inspector, investigator and currently firefighter engineer.
His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta. His funeral is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the same church followed by his burial at Kennesaw Memorial Park on Whitlock Avenue.
