Driver slams into tree on Waters Avenue

Man injured in wreck on Waters Avenue.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A 22-year-old Savannah man was injured when the car he was driving hit a tree on Waters Avenue early Friday morning.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said that 3:11 a.m., Tyrone Griffin was driving north on Waters Avenue near Althea Parkway when a 1999 Honda Accord crossed the center line into the southbound lane. Police said he overcorrected, lost control of the car that slid back across the northbound lane and into a tree.

Griffin had to be extricated from his vehicle by Savannah firefighters. He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center and is in serious condition.

SCMPD's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
