Garden City railroad crossing to receive makeover

Posted: Updated:

A railroad crossing is receiving a makeover in Garden City.

Gulfstream Rd. (County Rd. 9) will be closed for 10 days starting at 8 a.m. March 10. The road will reopen on March 20.

A contractor for Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled roadway construction and railroad crossing improvements on the crossing near Ga. Highway 21 in Chatham County.

The department states that in this railway maintenance operation, the road closure is a necessity to calibrate the railway creating a smooth transition for motorists.

Motorists will be able to access businesses, schools, and residences in the area up to work zone.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:

Motorists traveling westbound on C.R. 9/Gulfstream Road will be detoured toward S.R. 307/Bourne Avenue in Garden City; turn right onto S.R. 307/Bourne Ave. toward U.S. 80; turn right on Robert Miller Road; continue on Robert Miller Road to the intersection of Gulfstream Road/Robert Miller Road; turn right to continue eastbound on Gulfstream Road; up to road closure.

Motorists traveling eastbound on C.R. 9/ Gulfstream Road will be detoured toward Robert B. Miller Road; turn right onto Robert B. Miller Road; continue on Robert B. Miller Road to the intersection of S.R. 307/Bourne Avenue.; turn left on to S.R. 307/Bourne Avenue; turn left to onto S.R.21/Augusta Road; at the intersection of S.R.21/Augusta Road where detour ends.

Gulfstream Road will remain open to local traffic up to the railroad Crossing.

The Department of Transportation urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
