Cathcart fails to get the one salient point that in times of a depressed economy, cutting spending meets with disastrous results as in the case of Europe and Great Britain. We are confusing political philosophy and economics. There is a template for getting out of this which is not cutting spending. Its called the Great Depression. The economy is healing precisely because we have kicked the can down the road with regard to spending cuts. We have an unemployment problem which needs to be addressed now and we can't fix the deficit without fixing unemployment first. I hope that the Republican Party follows Mr. Cathcart's lead and those like him who constantly rage against the deficit. They are well on the way to making the Republicans a regional party.
