SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An expanded festival zone, the return of wristbands for drinking alcohol inside the festival zone in public, just a few issues Savannah-Chatham Metro Police will be focusing in as they prepare for St. Patrick's day events this week.

Monday morning metro commanders will be discussing the changes more in depth and how officers will be handling the larger festival control zone, which includes City Market and Congress Street, two busy areas for visitors furing the St. Patrick's day weekend. Lt. David Gay says officers have already been talking about the wristbands and how to approach people who may be drinking in public without a wristband inside the festival zone during festival hours.

"We are making a tremendous effort to educate the police officers and letting them know again the emphasis is in on voluntary compliance. We're not out to throw a bunch of people in jail and make a lot of citations, it's never the police departments overall enforcement strategy," said Lieutenant David Gay.

Police briefed city departments and agencies last week and businesses effected by the new expanded controlled entertainment zone had a meeting with the city this past week as well.
