Beaufort County is already looking ahead to the November election. Last night, it was decided that a $122 million capital sales tax referendum would be added to the ballot.
If voters approve the referendum, the one cent sales tax would pay for 33 road and park improvement projects throughout Beaufort, including Highways 278, 170 and 21. New biking and walking trails would also be added.
The penny tax would be in place for five years or until the $122 million is collected.
