Power restored after power pole catches fire overnight in Rincon

RINCON, GA (WTOC) -

A power line pole somehow caught fire overnight leaving some without power in Effingham County.

Rincon fire and police responded to Plantation Drive right in front of the Bent Tree neighborhood in Rincon around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Officials believe one of two things happened; either the transformer caught fire and burned through the pole, which is now snapped in half and lying on the power line, or, a live wire may have touched the pole, cutting right through it.

Plantation Dr. was closed to traffic as power crews worked to take the damaged pole down. Crews have now replaced the pole and Plantation Dr. is back open, however, crews will continue to work in the area for at least another hour or so. Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution.

Georgia Power reported about 200 without power overnight but had all power restored by 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures reach lows in the 50s and lower 60s Sunday morning, before rebounding into the 60s and 70s Sunday afternoon; coolest north and northwest of Savannah.  While...
