SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Savannah has been
recognized as one of America's top wedding destinations.
Last week, the historic city showed
up in a Top 20 List on wedding website giants TheKnot.com and
WeddingChannel.com.
XO
Group Inc., creator of TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com, released results of
its annual Real Wedding Survey that covered more than 17,500 U.S. brides
married in 2012. Savannah ranked No.17 among the "Most Expensive Cities to Get
Married" with wedding spending in 2012 averaging at $30,618.
"It
will come as no surprise to the many, many couples that come to Savannah each
year to get married that our romantic and beautiful city is on this
distinguished list," states Visit Savannah President Joseph Marinelli
in a news release. "But compared to most of the other cities on the list,
Savannah remains one of the best overall value destinations in the country."
The
survey shows that Savannah is listed only slightly above the national average
wedding cost and well below No.1 ranked New York City with its average wedding
cost at $76,687.
Savannah
is the only southeastern city represented in this top 20 ranking. Known
for its history, architecture and charm, Savannah also offers couples a
beautiful destination for their ceremony or honeymoon.
Savannah
is becoming increasingly popular as a wedding destination, with shows such as
TLC's "Randy to the Rescue" showcasing the city.
"Savannah's
growing popularity as one of America's most beautiful cities and top places to
visit helps us to attract more marrying couples that are looking for that ideal
and romantic experience," Marinelli added.
