BCSO issues tips for St. Patrick's Day paradegoers

Hilton Head Island's 30th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade takes place Sunday.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office issued tips for those headed to watch the parade and celebrate the holiday.

The parade steps off at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Coligny Beach public parking lot at 102 Pope Ave. The route will continue down Pope Avenue and end at Park Plaza at 33 Office Park Dr.

Roadway closings and lane reversals for the parade route are expected to start at about at 2 p.m.

BCSO is encouraging people to arrive early to secure a spot from which to watch the parade.

No parking is allowed on either side of the parade route. Expect traffic delays in the areas surrounding the parade route before, during and after the event.

BCSO advises drivers to wait until after 5 p.m. to drive through these areas. Pedestrians aren't allowed on the actual parade route once the parade begins.

The BCSO recommends parents keep a close watch on small children to prevent them from entering the parade route.

Parade participants are not allowed to throwing candy or other prizes from the floats. Personal golf carts and motorized scooters are also not allowed on the parade route.

Consumption of alcoholic beverages is limited to designated areas.

Vendors along the parade route have established areas where drinks may be bought and consumed and identification is required.

While beer and wine will be allowed for outside consumption in the designated areas, liquor drinks can only be consumed inside the bars/restaurants.

Citations can and will be issued to those found in violation of alcohol restrictions and/or any other applicable law or ordinance.

Increased law enforcement will be in the parade area. Deputies on foot patrol will be along the parade route.

BCSO's Command Post will be located near the parade's starting point, in the parking lot at Coligny Beach for anyone requiring aid or emergency assistance.
