Cathedral of St. John the Baptist prepares for St. Patrick's Day mass

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Volunteers at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist are busy preparing for St. Patrick's Day morning mass.

Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer will be the main celebrant Saturday morning. Grand Marshal Jimmy Ray along with his aides and other dignitaries will be at the mass as well.

As Father Jeremiah McCarthy explains, this is where the St. Patrick's Day celebrations begins.

"It's feast day that we honor a saint, St. Patrick, the Patron of Ireland, and in a sense a day that we celebrate the faith here in Savannah. A day when we also celebrate what it is to be Irish, at least for a day." said Father McCarthy.

Father McCarthy expects the cathedral to be filled to capacity for the 8 a.m. mass.
