SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC/AP) - Savannah's 189th annual St. Patrick's Day parade just stepped off Saturday morning from Abercorn and Gwinnett streets.
The Third ID performed the Star-Spangled Banner. The St. Patrick's Day Parade will feature 317 floats, that's 50 floats fewer than last year.
Last year, the 2012 St. Patrick's Day festivities brought more than 1.2 million visitors to the three-day festival according to the Parade Committee estimates.
With area hotels booked solid, Savannah business owners expect a profitable weekend. Tourists and locals began celebrating on the downtown riverfront Friday, and bar owners should see long lines late into Saturday night.
Due to road closures throughout downtown Savannah, all city of Savannah parking garages are now inaccessible, according to the city of Savannah on Twitter.
