HAAF soldier killed during Operation Enduring Freedom

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

The Department of Defense on Sunday released the name of a soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Chief Warrant Officer James E. Groves III, 37, of Kettering, Ohio, died March 16 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield. 

Chief Warrant Officer Groves, A Kiowa pilot, joined the Army in August 1994 and arrived at the unit in June 2009. This was his fourth deployment. His awards include the Air Medal.

The incident is under investigation.
