Economic ties between the city of Savannah and Israel are growing stronger.
Top Israeli officials joined Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson for a news conference on Monday afternoon. the delegation of government and industry leaders from Israel have been in Savannah the past two days - touring places like Savannah State University, Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., the World Trade Center Savannah and the Georgia Ports Authority.
"We see it as an advantage for us as a shipping line as a major gateway to the Southeast for roots, global network around the world," said Lea Bogatch-Genossar ZIM American Integrated Shipping Services.
"We're hoping this will create jobs and build relationships here in this community. As you know, I had an opportunity to go to Israel and this is as a result of that and also working with the Consul General. He has fallen in love with our city and loves to see the connection with Israel and Savannah," Jackson said.
The Israeli delegation also met with leaders from the Savannah Jewish community.
