Colleton Co. sheriff treated for injuries following wreck

Posted: Updated:
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A Colleton County sheriff was taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning after his vehicle was t-boned while passing through an intersection.

According to Highway Patrol trooper Bridget Wyant, the incident occurred Tuesday at 8:03 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 63 and Mabel T. Willis Boulevard.

Trooper Wyant says Sheriff RA Strickland was traveling north on Hwy. 63 and making a turn on Mabel T. Willis when his car was hit by another vehicle on the driver's side of the car.

The driver of the car was 27-year-old Carllessa Prioliau, Wyant says.

Authorities say it appears Prioliau accident hit the gas instead of the break, causing her to run the stop sign and hit the sheriff's car.

Strickland was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He has since been released, according to Wyant.

Prioliau was charged with failure to yield.
