Students at Bloomingdale Elementary School presented the Chatham County Sheriff's Office with dog food, toys and blankets for dogs in Operation New Hope.
The students have been collecting the goods from December through the end of February. Operation New Hope allows inmates at the Chatham County Detention Center to train unadoptable dogs from the Humane Society.
Rachel Lee, a fifth-grader at Bloomingdale Elementary explained why they wanted to help.
"All the homeless dogs and all the homeless animals there made us sad that they don't have homes and they don't really have shelter and everything, and they really need homes. So, we wanted to donate a couple things and bring the dogs out here so maybe one day those dogs would get adopted and other dogs will," Rachel said.
Since Operation New Hope began last April, nearly six dozen dogs have been trained and found loving homes through the program.
