POOLER, GA (WTOC) -
The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is now the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.
Students, researchers and visitors from all over the world have been visiting the museum for years - and the new status more accurately describes the museum.
Henry Skipper, president and CEO of the museum, said it has always been a national museum and now they are just formalizing the process.
"I think in Savannah most people would think of the museum as a local museum. Unfortunately, frankly but that has been the case. We have always been a museum that is a national treasure," he said.
The museum is working to restore the B-17 City of Savannah to its original combat configuration.
