ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -
It was a proud day for some new U.S. citizens.
On Thursday, 21 people representing
13 countries all took
the Oath of Allegiance at Fort Frederica on St. Simons Island during
a Naturalization Ceremony.
The honorable Chief
Judge Lisa Godbey Wood of the U.S. District Court swore in the new citizens.
Families and
friends were there as their loved ones took the oath.
"Well, I think that process is important
because becoming an American citizen should be a real commitment because not
only does it come with privileges, it comes with responsibilities." said Wood.
This is the first
time a Naturalization Ceremony has been held at the Fort Frederica National
Monument.
