Beaufort Co. Sheriff's Deputy Killed

A Beaufort County Sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while he was off-duty this weekend. Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner says 22 year old deputy Rob Odam was shot to death in Eastover, South Carolina on Saturday afternoon while visiting family.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department, Odam was shot four times Saturday. His body was discovered in a wooded area near his family's home in Eastover.

Investigators say they do have a suspect. Deputies from the Richland County Sheriff's Department have charged 58 year old Thomas Rye with murder. Rye owns the wooded area where Odam's body was found. Police think a confrontation might have taken place between the two men, although it is unclear exactly what happened. They're still investigating.
