A bank robbery on Savannah's westside led to a manhunt in Garden City on Friday.
Three schools – Mercer Middle, Groves High and Woodville-Tomkins Institute were put on lockdown. A helicopter landed in Garden City's Rosignol Hill neighborhood, and neighbors say a SWAT team stormed a house with an infant inside.
WTOC was there when the baby girl -- wrapped in a pink blanket -- was re-united with her aunt. That child's aunt didn't want to speak on camera but said the baby's father was one of several men the SWAT team took from the house about 11:20 a.m.
It all started hours before that, when the Wells Fargo off U.S. 80 in far west savannah was robbed by armed men, who fled with cash. Police called in K-9s and a chopper.
Right now, police aren't saying whether Fridays robbery is linked to the Wednesday armed robbery of another Wells Fargo, located off Ogeechee Road near Lynes Parkway.
"there has been no determination as to whether this Wells Fargo robbery was related to the previous one this week," metro police spokeswoman Eunice Baker said.
Twenty-year-old Raphael Gilmore watched the search unfold in Rosignol Hill, near the corner of 5th Street and Davis Avenue. Asked if it was frightening, he replied, "It was alright. Stuff like that usually happens around here."
It's been a busy week for Garden City, with detectives investigating the Monday night shooting of a man in Plantation Townhomes off Augusta Road, and a house beside the apartment complex riddled with bullet holes two days later.
