SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah Branch of the NAACP held a meeting Sunday to discuss the state of the special purpose local option sales tax, or splost.

The meeting which was held at the Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah was open to the public. Senior department departments heads gave an accounting of all the funds.

Organizers say it's important for the public to have access to this information.

"Well, any time that you ask the public, by referendum, to support a special purpose sales tax, it's important that you communicate with them.  where the sales tax dollars have been spent, what projects are outstanding, what is the status." said Al Scott, President of NAACP Savannah Branch.

Scott says they plan to ask for an extension to the splost in the "not too distant future".
