Chemical tank catches fire in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

On Monday, crews responded to a chemical tank fire in Savannah.

A Savannah Fire official said a 2,300 ton tank holding molten sulfur at Southern States chemical plant overheated and caught fire, but says flames were contained to just the tank. No one was injured.

Multiple fire crews were on the scene putting water in the tank to cool the sulfur down so the fire did not spark back up.

Dulany Road and the rail road on Marine Terminal Drive were closed while crews contained the fire.
