Authorities seize drugs, weapons in Metter

METTER, GA (WTOC) -

The Metter Police Department, working with the Tri-Circuit Drug Task Force, the Candler County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Corrections, executed three search warrants on March 21.

Authorities searched two residences on Whitaker Street and one vacant house on North Leroy Street. Between the three locations, authorities seized powder cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana with a street value of over $5,000. Weapons were also seized.

"I appreciate the efforts of the law enforcement officers involved in this investigation to help make Metter a safer place. We deeply appreciate the task force agents, Sheriff Bell, the GBI and the Department of Corrections for their assistance," Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson said in a press release.

    After years of an almost complete moratorium, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council voted 12 to 1 Monday to open a limited 2017 red snapper fishing season in the South Atlantic. If approved by NOAA Fisheries, the season will likely begin in mid-to late October.
