Veterans living in the Statesboro area now have a new place to get healthcare.
The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center held a dedication and ribbon cutting on Tuesday for a Telehealth Outpatient Clinic on Northside Drive.
U.S. Rep. John Barrow was also in town for the event as well as a number of veteran groups.
They said the project has been in the works for about four years and they are happy to have a place to get primary care right in their own community but still use the professionals working in Augusta with camera technology.
"It's going to treat a lot of people not only do we have a good distance to the hospital but when you get older it puts a kink in the wheel - even if you are not terribly sick - so we wanted a clinic here we could rely on," said Ray Hendrix of the Veteran State Board for Veteran Affairs.
The clinic invites all veterans to stop by to get information on the clinic and on how the Telehealth program works.
