Shots ring out on Savannah's east side overnight

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An investigation is under way after bullets came through the window of a home overnight in Savannah.

Neighbors say they heard at least 5 shots ring out around 3 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of E Anderson Street and Atlantic Avenue in Savannah.

"I heard about 5 shots ring out and it was like, bam-bam-bam-bam-bam, 5 distinct shots, but I didn't know if it was a gun so I asked my husband, honey, does a gun go bam-bam-bam, and he goes, Yes!" said Alicia Luck, neighbor who lives on Anderson St.

The bullets went through the front window of a home where at least two people were inside at the time. One person was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Right now, it is unclear if there were others besides the known 2 that were inside the home.

WTOC's Ben Williamson has been on the scene all morning collecting details and reported seeing 6 obvious bullet holes to the front of the home.

Neighbors are on edge now and say the shooting was surprising for the area because it is usually a quiet street.

"I have lived here for 3 years and I haven't noticed any shootings, but I did hear there was one down this street maybe about 3 or 4 blocks away, and that was probably in August." said Luck.

Police closed E. Anderson Street from Atlantic Avenue to Paulsen Street while investigators searched the area for clues to try to piece together what exactly happened. The road reopened around 5 a.m.
