SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An investigation is under way after bullets came through the window of a home overnight in Savannah.

Neighbors said they heard at least five shots ring out at about 3 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of East Anderson Street and Atlantic Avenue in Savannah.

"I heard about five shots ring out and it was like, bam-bam-bam-bam-bam - five distinct shots, but I didn't know if it was a gun so I asked my husband, 'Honey, does a gun go bam-bam-bam?', and he goes, 'Yes!'" said Alicia Luck, neighbor who lives on Anderson Street.

The bullets went through the front window of a home, where at least two people were inside at the time. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Right now, it is unclear if there were others besides the two people who were inside the home.

WTOC reported seeing six bullet holes to the front of the home.

Neighbors are on edge now. They said the shooting was surprising for the area because it is usually a quiet street.

"I have lived here for three years and I haven't noticed any shootings, but I did hear there was one down this street maybe about three or four blocks away, and that was probably in August." said Luck.

"I am new to the Savannah area and you see it on TV and you are like, 'It will never happen here,' and then it happens right next door. Now, I'll be double-locking doors and making sure I am keeping my kids where I can see them at all times so I can keep them safe," said Lamont White, who lives a couple of doors down.

WTOC tried knocking on the door of the home, but got no response.

Police closed East Anderson Street from Atlantic Avenue to Paulsen Street while investigators searched the area for clues to try to piece together what exactly happened. The road reopened around 5 a.m.
