A South Georgia congressman admits he is interested in pursuing the U.S. Senate seat held by retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
District 1 U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston was in Camilla on Wednesday touring an alligator farm and meeting with local ag leaders outside his district. Kingston serves on the U.S. House defense and agriculture subcommitees could announce a run soon.
"I am looking at the Senate race. I think with my background in agriculture and coming from South Georgia, I would be a good fit for this area and probably will be making some sort of announcement within the next month," he said. .
Just Wednesday morning, U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey announced he will run for Chambliss' seat. So far, only he and U.S. Rep. Paul Broun has officially announced a run for what is expected to be a highly contested race.
