FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Fort Stewart celebrated the opening of the Tuttle Army Health Clinic on Hunter Army Airfield with a ribbon cutting Wednesday.

The clinic has been training to become two independent medical homes. The Army adopted the medical home concept in 2010 because it offered a more comprehensive and patient-friendly system. Richard James, the director of the new clinic, explains how the two medical homes work.

"This is a new system, a new model of army medicine where we have the patient at the center of our team and a team of providers and nurses and administrators that help provide comprehensive care for their needs," said James.

The Tuttle Army Health Clinic is the fourth primary care clinic to undergo the transformation of the new medical home model.
