ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

South Carolina native Candice Glover is getting closer to becoming the next American Idol after two failed attempts.

Her mother is thanking God that Candice didn't take her advice, because if she did, she wouldn't be there. Carole Glover wanted her daughter to give up.

"But Candice said no, I'm going to give it one more time, one more time. And she did," said Carole Glover.

Carole says she is so glad Candice didn't take her advice. She's always known Candice had the gift, but the rejection hurt.

"I didn't like when Steven Tyler made the comment, I'm sorry baby. That just crushed me," she said.

No ones making those comments this year, especially in Beaufort County.

Carole says it warms her heart when she drives down the street and see all of the signs supporting Candice.

"The next American Idol. This is her year," said Susie Coaxum, Candice's cousin.

"No one else, she's going to win this thing," said Richard Glover, another cousin of Candice.

Carole says the community has come together through Candice.

Two weeks ago, the county held two rally's in her honor when American Idol crews visited to film her biggest fans.

"I feel that Candice has done something to the community. I feel that her being on American Idol has brought us all together," said Carole.

With her daughter just weeks away from making it to the finals, Carole says deep down, she always knew her daughter would be a star.

But is Candice ready for that?

"Yes. She's ready for the big entertainment world," said Carole.
