SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The halls of East Broad Elementary School were all decked out in pink Thursday.

Students at the school paid $1 each to dress down for the day in pink.  The fundraiser was part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation's effort to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.

The administrators and teachers played a key role in making the dress down day a success.  In total, the students raised around $400 for breast cancer research.

The day wasn't just about being able to dress down, students also learned about breast cancer.

"Cancer, especially breast cancer, they are both very scary subjects, and it's never too young for students to know the importance and how they are impacted by it." said Lavetris Singleton, co-caption for Mission Impossible group.

Students also learned about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
