Metter celebrates 20th Another Bloomin' Festival

METTER, GA (WTOC) -

Easter weekend in Metter means more than just baskets of pastel colored eggs and candy. It means the biggest Saturday of the year with Another Bloomin' Festival. The event celebrates its 20th anniversary and takes its name, in equal parts, from the flowers that decorate downtown and the seemingly endless stream of festivals in south Georgia each spring.

"People have asked why we started it on Easter weekend," committee member Rhonda Hendrix admits. "But we have people who plan each year to come home from wherever they live now and they see people they knew from childhood."

But non-Metter natives are welcomed too. The downtown squares fill with a car show, arts and crafts, live entertainment and more.

The festival kicked off with the annual bake-off, with a twist. Cupcakes replaced the traditional pound cakes. Saturday morning will begin with a 5k run at 9 a.m. at the Candler County Board of Education. The day includes a fly-in at the Metter Airport, an antique car show and motorcycle rally all starting at 9:30 a.m.
