SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

In the Coastal Empire hundreds of thousands of people flocked to their churches and cathedrals for Easter Sunday.

The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist housed four Sunday masses today, including one entirely in Latin.

Today is the day that marks when Jesus Christ rose from the grave after being crucified three days earlier. It is the holiest day on the Catholic calendar.

"Actually, the sermon brought me to tears, because it talked about the new generation not actually having the faith that some of the older generations do and so I think it's very important to have heard that message today." said Jeannie Cortellinno.

The Diocese of Savannah has been celebrating holy week with masses almost everyday all week long.
