Posted: Updated:

City water and sewer crews cleaned up a minor sewage spill on Sunday night.

It happened at the intersection of Delmar Circle and Wilshire Boulevard. Debris and grease blocked an 8-inch gravity sewer main, which resulted in 235 gallons of sewage spilling, according to the city. It is classified as a minor spill under state guidelines from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

City crews were notified of the spill at 8:58 p.m. Sunday, and the spill was fixed by 9:45 p.m., according to the city. The blockage was cleared and approximately 4,000 gallons of both contaminated and drainage water.

The water was pumped from the canal and back into the city sanitary sewer collection system. The tide was going out and the spill could not be contained and lime was place on affected area, according to the city. The canal water was sampled. Notices about the spill were placed at the spill site, Wilshire Canal at White Bluff.

All agencies required by the EPD were notified.
