SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Crews are working to repair a sink hole at the Oglethorpe Mall.

The hole was first discovered on Saturday. Mall officials say there was a break in a sewer line that caused the ground to cave in. The hole is in front of the SCMPD headquarters at the Oglethorpe Mall near JCPenney.

General Growth Properties and Oglethorpe Mall released a statement regarding the excavation related to the repair of the sink hole:

"Crews are working to repair the sinkhole. Safety is always our top priority. Fortunately it's in an area where there is very little threat to public safety," said Oglethorpe Mall Senior General Manager Paul Baker.

Georgia power crews rerouted some power lines due to the sink hole and have an employee on site around the clock monitoring the hole.

Officials told WTOC the hold is about 10 to 12 feet deep and may take over a week to repair. In the meantime, the sink hole has been blocked off with tape.
