Voters are heading to the polls Tuesday in South Carolina to vote in the runoff for the District 1 Congressional seat.

Former Governor Mark Sanford and Charleston Attorney Curtis Bostic are in a runoff to represent the Republican Party in the race for South Carolina's First Congressional seat. The winner will go on to face Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch and Green Party Candidate Eugene Platt in the May election.

The seat became vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed U.S. Rep. Tim Scott to fill the state's U.S. Senate seat, left vacant when Jim Demint resigned.

Sanford says his prior experience in Congress and at the governorship will help give him the upper hand in Tuesday's runoff.
