MULLINS, SC (WMBF) – The suspect identified in the shooting of a 64-year-old man near Mullins on April 1 has been taken into custody after a short police chase.
Marion resident Chauncee Malek Platt, 19, was wanted for attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
On Thursday, Platt led officers with the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Combined Drug Unit on short foot chase, but was nabbed and charged in connection to the shooting.
According to the news release from the sheriff's office, a man was shot and hit three times at his home near Mullins on the afternoon of Monday, April 1. The victim told Marion County Sheriff's deputies that a young, tall, African-American man came to the door of his home on Willie Hodge Road at about 1 p.m.
The suspect fired four shots, the victim said, hitting him three times: in the arm, leg and abdomen.
The suspect then ran into the woods, and the victim was transported to the hospital, sheriff's officials stated in a news release.
