Fire at car dealership deemed arson

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say the suspicious fire that occurred Wednesday morning at a car dealership in Savannah was arson. WTOC crews got there as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

It happened off of Montgomery and W. 56th streets at K & L Auto Sales Inc. The lot is home to more than two dozen used cars that are up for sale. Two vehicles took the brunt of the damage.

Savannah Fire and SCMPD worked overnight to try and battle flames inside the cars. Crews worked quickly, but the damage was already done. A stretch of West 56th Street that is lined with homes had to be shut down while crews worked to put out the blaze. One of the entrances to the dealership was taped off the rest of the day.

A brick was found on top of one of the burnt cars.

The two damaged cars were left on the lot. SFES sent a team out to investigate late Wednesday morning.
