BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Both Mark Sanford and Elizabeth Colber-Busch are household names, so as one could imagine, this race will be charged and very public.

Sanford celebrated his victory Tuesday night in Charleston, and finally introduced his fiancee, Maria Belen Chapur, for the first time. Chapur is the woman he cheated on his wife, Jenny Sanford, with during his time as governor.

Sanford spoke Wednesday about the next steps in his campaign and how he plans to continue the job that Senator Tim Scott was doing.

"I just talk about the fact that he's a Republican and I'm a Republican. And the point I made last night, with the 16 of us in this race, there was very little difference on issues, and I think this next race is going to be very different. You're going to have a sharp contrast," he said.

In a statement released shortly after Sanford was named the GOP candidate, Colbert-Busch said she looks forward to a vigorous campaign focusing on jobs and balancing the economy. She said she plans to use her experience as a business woman to cut waste in Washington, and lower tax rates.

The general election for the first congressional district seat will take place in May.
