CNT bust nets crack cocaine worth $80K

Six men were arrested, more than 720 grams of cocaine and more than $30,000 in cash were seized in a bust by Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.  

CNT announced in a news conference Thursday morning that an investigation began in February on a tip about drug activity at a home at 1315 Golden St. in Savannah. On March 28 a search warrant were carried out at two homes and arrests were made. 

In February, complaints were sent to CNT from CrimeStoppers about drug activity throughout the day and night at the Golden Street home. CNT agents worked undercover to identify those believed to be involved and bought cocaine from those associated with the home, according to the CNT.  

CNT identified another home at 2106 Mell St. in Savannah that was connected to activity at the Golden Street home. CNT agents bought cocaine from someone at both homes. CNT got another tip from CrimeStoppers that drug sales were going on at that Mell Street.  

Just after 7 p.m. on March 28, CNT, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, executed search warrants at 1315 Golden St. and 2106 Mell St.  

The search resulted in the seizure of more than 720 grams of cocaine, prescription pills, several ounces of marijuana, some ecstacy, two rifles, one shotgun and two handguns and $30,580 in cash, according to the CNT. Most of the cocaine seized was crack cocaine and has a street value estimated at $80,000. Items commonly used to made powder cocaine into crack cocaine were also seized. One of the firearms had been reported stolen and at least one rifle was found to be high caliber and capable of piercing body armor, according to the CNT.

Six men were arrested. Antonio Lamar Hampton, 28; Andre Keith Johnson, 29; Jabari Raefael Weldon, 27; Larry Dawson Cohen Jr., 32; Anthony Rhodes, 54; Walter Lee Kelly 54. Hampton, Johnson, Weldon and Cohen remain at the Chatham County Jail. Rhodes and Kelly were arrested on misdemeanor charges and posted bond.

Hampton is charged with trafficking cocaine, manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of tools during the commission of a crime. 

Johnson is charged with trafficking cocaine, manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of tools during the commission of a crime.

Weldon is charged with trafficking cocaine, manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of tools during the commission of a crime. 

Cohen is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy), possession of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object. Rhodes is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object. Kelly is charged with possession of drug-related object.
