The murder investigation of a visually impaired Phenix City man continues to unfold, with startling details of an allegedly disloyal girlfriend and her murderous friends' plot to rob and kill him.
Russell County Coroner Authur Sumbry Jr. has confirmed a Phenix City man was found dead at his home early Tuesday morning.
John DeWayne Jones, 38, was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m. on 7th Street in Phenix City.
Five people were arrested for the murder shortly after. Phenix City Police Captain Frank Ivey reported Eric Dansby, 24, Shawnna Renee Davidson, 30, Marshekia Le'an Knight, 23, and Jonnel Marquet Davis, 23, were charged with capital murder. An unnamed male juvenile was also facing the same charges.
Jones had "multiple gunshot wounds," Sumbry said. He would not elaborate where on the body Jones was shot. The official arrest warrant reported a high-caliber rifle was used to commit the crime.
Authorities reported the quintet shot Jones while robbing him of drugs and money. No information on the type of drugs or how much money was stolen was reported.
We are unable to release information about the minor; however, the remaining four all pled not guilty to murder in separate court hearings.
Knight and Davis' bonds have been set at $1,000,000.
Davidson and Dansby are being held on $500,000 bond.
As of Thursday afternoon, none of the four had posted bond; they remained in the Russell county jail.
More details will be added to this story as it develops.
