Bishop accused of sexual relationship with teen

Bobby Jones Senior, a bishop of an Allendale church, was arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor Tuesday.

It is an arrest that many people in the quiet town say they didn't see coming.

Richard Corley grew up with Jones, he said, "I don't believe he would be capable of doing anything like that."

"It's hard to believe, I still can't believe it," said long-time friend Evelyn Jenkins.

They can't believe Jones, the bishop of New Life House of Love, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident happened in January.

We tried to reach the 54-year-old minister at the church, but no one was there so we called the number listed for the church but our calls weren't returned.

Evelyn Jenkins has known Jones for 25 years and she says if he's falsely accused she will support him.

"If there's anything I can do to help him or stand behind him I will," Jenkins, said.

Corley says Jones is a man of good character and he believes there has to be more to the story.

"It's just maybe a witch-hunt, or maybe for money," he said.

But if the accusations turn out to be true, both Corley and Jenkins say they will feel compassion for the teenager. But if not, they hope their leader's name will be cleared.

"I hope that he will be exonerated from this and everything will come out," said Corley.

According to the Allendale County Magistrate's Office, Jones paid a $50,000 bond to get out of jail.

We're told his preliminary hearing will happen before May 21.
