Settlement reached in 2009 alligator attack

A settlement has been reached in a 2009 alligator attack in the lowcountry.

The ruling against Fripp Island Resort is thought to be the nation's first successful claim against a private development involving a wild alligator attack.

The victim, a man from Ohio, leaned down at the edge of a lagoon to pick up a golf ball when the 400-pound gator bit his arm off.

The terms of the settlement are confidential.
