SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Metro police are investigating a shooting that happened in the Tremont Park area off of Tremont Road in Savannah early Friday.

WTOC has learned that a shooting took place on Ford Avenue around 4 a.m. Friday. There was heavy police presence at three separate locations around Tremont Road.

A white car crashed into a ditch on Tremont Road near Second Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing someone loaded into an ambulance there. Police and K-9 are searching the area. The car was towed from the scene.

Several SCMPD officers, an ambulance and a crime scene unit were seen not far from there, about a half mile down Tremont Road, closer to Ogeechee Road in front of Wilson Trucking Co. Police along with K-9 searched the area there as well.

Witnesses tell WTOC they heard multiple gunshots.

Tremont Road was closed between Ogeechee Road and Ford Avenue for about two hours, but has since reopened.

Police said this was not a fatal shooting. The victim was injured and taken to the hospital. No word on their condition at this time.

Ronald Williams has lived in Savannah for more than 30 years. He said the shooting so close to home does not really change his opinion of the neighborhood.

"Tremont Park is a great place to live, It is very quiet. There are a lot of people that have been living here a long time and I have spoken too many of them and this is the ideal place. So, I don't plan on moving again," said Williams.

The shooting is under investigation.
