BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Some Beaufort County high school students received top honors from the Heritage Classic Foundation on Tuesday. 15 students were given Scholar Awards to help them further their education. The awards were given to students from Bluffton High School, Beaufort High School, Beaufort Academy, Battery Creek, Hilton Head Prep and the Governor's Schools for Science and Math. The Scholar Awards are four year grants and range from $18,000 to $22,000.

"I think the parents have to take a lot of credit in what we see here today. They are extremely intelligent, leaders in their class and community, and we look forward to them being excellent ambassadors for the nation in years to come," said Ward Kirby, Scholars Committee chairman.

The program has given out more than $3 million to more than 250 students since 1993.
