BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Police in the Lowcountry are searching for a very valuable purse. It has $35,000 cash inside!

They are investigating a report from a woman who says she left the purse in a restaurant in Beaufort. She told police she and her family are moving from New Jersey to Florida.

They were staying at a motel in Beaufort. While police investigate, many people say it's hard to believe someone would walk around with that much cash.

"My reaction is, that's crazy! What was she doing with $35,000 in her pocket? I can't even think that way. I don't even have that much money in the bank," said Jane McGillicuddy.

Police say the family already left for Florida without finding the purse. Officers are trying to figure out whether there's any truth to the claim.
