Jesup man on bicycle injured in wreck with officer

JESUP, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate a wreck involving a Jesup police officer. 

Jesup Police Officer David Leighton was chasing a speeding driver when he hit 35-year-old Kenneth Marker, of Jesup, who was riding his bike. The wreck too place at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday on Georgia Highway 23 and Georgia 38 in Wayne County. 

Officer Leighton lost control of the vehicle in a curve and traveled into the emergency lane, sideswipping Marker. The patrol car then drove over a curb and hit a wodden pole before coming to rest. 

Investigators were back out at the crash scene on Thursday looking for clues. 

Marker was taken to Wayne County Memorial Hospital. He is in good condition and paramedics say he is expected to be OK.
