Hwy 80 reopens after wreck

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Authorities responded to an accident with injuries and entrapment on Highway 80 at Jimmy Deloach Parkway in Bloomingdale Thursday afternoon.

A pickup truck and a tractor-trailer were involved in the collision. The Georgia State Patrol has cited the driver of the tractor-trailer for failure to yield.

GSP still is working to identify the driver of the pickup, a woman who was flown to Memorial University Medical Center by LifeStar helicopter. William Gay, the passenger in the pickup, was taken to Memorial by ambulance. Gay and the woman had to be cut from the truck and are said to have very serious injuries but should recover.

"All I saw was smoke went up in the air. She wacked him and it was pretty terrifying," said George Stone, witness.

Highway 80 was closed for several hours while crews cleaned up.
